Undoubtedly the most brutal knockout in UFC fly weight history took place on this day in 2023.
For a large part of MMA and combat history, the regular focus was on the heavier weight classes. Many credit that mentality even for the absence of the legendary Demetrious Johnson in many goat lists.
At some point, Dana White even considered the end of the flight weight division. In the years since the beginning of 2020 was a possibility, the emerging talents with 125 pounds have proven why that would have been a colossal error.
Van DeiveSon FigueIredo's scene burst like a Freakish flight weight to the continuous journey from Alexandre Pantoja to greatness on the throne, the division is good and really flowering.
And it's not just the big names that have arrived. Only two years ago, a hunter from outside the ranking was perhaps the biggest knockout in the history of the division.
Jesus Aguilar Stressed Shanon Ross in rare one-punch flight weight Ko on UFC 290
On this day, July 8, in 2023, UFC 290 closed the edition of International Fight Week of that year.
The showcase in Las Vegas from 2025 recently saw Ilia Topuria Charles Oliveira Knock -Out Knock -Out. Although it was brutal, T-Mobile Arena had seen better on a provisional map two years ago.
In just the second fight of the night on UFC 290, Jesus met Aguilar Shannon Ross in a flying weight. The Mexican attracted the competition with nine professional victories, six through entry but zero via Knockout.
The absence of a KO was remedied against Ross and it only took 17 seconds.
Out of nowhere, the grasp specialist connected to a perfect upper hand right, which makes his Australian rival cold. Ross' head hit the canvas with a pathogenic flop while his stiff body fell backwards.
Although in his previous fight, Ross had a KO loss of 59 seconds, no one expected that the knockout-out-less aguilar would be than the efforts of Kleydson Rodrigues to surpass in such a violent way.
Alexander Volkanovski, Dricus du Plessis and Bo Nickal have also received UFC 290 Knock -Outs
Aguilar's victory rewarded the select selection that were present at UFC 290 that arrived for the first fights. Fortunately for those who didn't do that, they were still witnessing a lot of action later.
UFC 290 even established a new modern record for the most one -minute finishes, with three others joined Aguilar when achieving the performance. After Denise Gomes and Robbie Lawler did this on the Prelims, Bo Nickal Val Woodburn stated in 38 seconds to start the main map.
After a three-round war in Dan Hooker and Jalin Turner, there was another finish thanks to the then Future Middleweight Champion Dric Du Plessis. The South African shocked the world by stopping Robert Whittaker to stay unbeaten in the Octagon and earn his title shot.
As if that wasn't enough, the consensus fight of the year followed between Pantoja and Brandon Moreno, so that the flying weight kicks off from 'The Cannibal'.
The icing on top of an incredible event was a return to winning ways for champion of featherweight Alexander Volkanovski. In his first fight since the Islam of Makhachev Op and Slightly lost to Islam, the Aussie ran through Yair Rodriguez to further prove his greatness.
