If Demetrious Johnson was Tom Aspinall, he would pass on the Jones fight.
It is more than 500 days since we had England's Aspinall as the Interim Heavyweight Champion, still to unite the title with the undisputed champion Jones.
Jones would take a detour in Madison Square Garden last November and chose to fight (and retire) former Champ Stipe Miocic on UFC 309.
Since then, the whole world has been waiting for the announcement of Jones vs. Aspinall Fight, including one of the greatest hunters of all time, former UFC flight weight champion Demetrious Johnson.
“It is almost like a film that we are all enthusiastic about, which may never come out,” Johnson said about the heavyweight Superfight on Submission Radio.

Demetrious Johnson would not wait 6 months for Jon Jones
Aspinall won the interim title on UFC 295 in November 2023 after Jon Jones withdrew from his defending defense at Miocic due to injury. Aspinall's since then the belt defended the belt in a rare event against Curtis Blaydes on UFC 304 last summer, all ready to unite.
In the meantime, Jones reportedly wants six months preparing for Aspinall, 'Mighty Mouse' not a fan of the timeline a bit.
“If I were Tom Aspinall, I would be, God, guy, as if I wasn't waiting for six months,” Johnson continued.
'As you all have to give me a fight …
“Again, this could be the biggest fight of his career if he could beat Jon Jones … I have mixed feelings in the six months,” said Johnson.
Tom Aspinall suggests defending the Interim title again
There is a lot at stake when it comes to fighting Jon Jones. Legacy of all time, money, the world heavyweight title … Aspinall's waited for those things for so long, but how long now?
One of the most active champions that the UFC will ever see with 11 defenses under his belt, Demetrious Johnson believes that it is time for Aspinall to continue with his career.
“Tom Aspinall should fight,” said Johnson.
“I think when you put an athlete that is so young on ice and they don't get that ring time, they don't get that chance to go there and just fight and earn the money. It's a bit different.
“If I was Tom Aspinall, say that Jon Jones wants six months. I'm going to pass on that fight. I'm going to fight someone else. I will defend the interim heavyweight championship.”
Johnson continued.
“Everyone fights on the timeline of Jon Jones. If I were Tom Aspinall, I would not have fought on the timeline of Jon Jones. He dictates what is going on now and when that fight will happen. If I was Tom Aspinall, I am not, I will not wait six months.
“I can't remember the last time that Tom Aspinall moisture …”
