John McCarthy says that Jason Herzog told him that the interruption of the main event was 'a little early'

On the roads in Podcast, the legendary MMA referee says 'Big' John McCarthy that he had a phone call with Jason Herzog after the main event and received his opinion about the interruption.

“He goes, John, when he was hit, he went down,” said McCarthy.

'[Herzog] Go, I saw him try to move. I looked at the photos that Lewis threw. I saw a few of them missing. Then I saw that there was one that was decent, then there was a huge one. Then he made a sound of it and it was one of them, oh, I really have to think about stopping this.

“He says, and I started to come in, and that's about the time he climbed the fence, and I thought [Teixeira] Was more injured than he actually was.

“He is going, so I would say it was a bit early because I have to change what I do. I have to look at it,” said McCarthy about his conversation with Herzog.

“And we talked about it and this is what happens. You are responsible for a person's health and safety, and sometimes it is difficult to let things go. But you have to do it because you have to give it, although Teixeira did not do much in the UFC, he has the opportunity to be that main event, Derrick Lewis.

“He worked on that on the basis of his few victories there in the UFC, and you have to give him that chance.”

McCarthy also said that Herzog was worried about seeing Lewis who had Teixeira completely unconscious.

John McCarthy Talks Tallison Teixeira Illegal grasping the cage

An experienced referee since the early days of UFC, says McCarthy that Herzog could have taken a few points from Teixeira to illegally grab the cage to get up.

Lewis, however, hunted the finish at that time, making it difficult to do.

“He could have stopped the action, taken a point, perhaps two points based on that handle, it saved you because you didn't get up,” said McCarthy.

“Could be one point, could be two because he says it was intentional that he did it, and he would immediately have put him back in that position with Derrick Lewis on top of him, and you start the fight again.

'But you are in this position where you have Derrick Lewis who hurt someone, you don't want to take that opportunity.

“That is not fair for Derrick, because when the man cheated, he polluted to get himself out of that position,” McCarthy added.
