Denise Gomes surprised Yazmin Jauregui to end her 10-0 point in just 20 seconds
On UFC 290, Denise Gomes came in as the underdog for her strikal matchup with the unbeaten Yazmin Jauregui that took place on the Prelims in Las Vegas.
The Jauregui from Mexico had already recorded back-to-back victories in the Octagon, and in just 24 years old she seemed to be one to look at 115 pounds.
Despite the loss of her debut, the 23-year-old Gomes was another competition to keep an eye on, but as a considerable underdog in this collision, the Brazilian should try to give her opponent her first loss.
The Brazilian clearly paid little attention to the grooming opportunities when she immediately came out and connected to her first pair of strikes to hurt and drop her opponent in the first 10 seconds.
Gomes flowed on the pressure, shot shots against the fence to record the fastest finish in the Strawweight history, ending Jauregui's 10-0 run in just 20 seconds.
There may be some protesting from Jauregui in the immediate aftermath, but with Gomes who pinch her opponent and constantly land damage, there could be no complaints.

Although Denise Gomes was convinced that she would be the victor, she had no problem to admit that even she was surprised that she brought Yazmin Jauregui away in 20 seconds.
“It was a surprise for me (to finish so quickly),” Gomes told the media in her interview after the fight. “I knew I had the potential – I would come to the UFC and actually break some records. But to start this way this is very cool.”
Gomes then lost her next fight before he bounced back and earned three consecutive victories to claim a place in the top 15 of the division.
