It looked like a comfortable afternoon for the toffees. Beto had fired them early in the first half and nodded at Abdoulaye Doucoure to send a bouncing volley over Andre Onana's vast arm.
Doucoure then doubled their lead shortly afterwards with a header up close. The low ride of Jack Harrison was placed in the air by Onana, with the Maliaan by hand to nod it in.
Bruno Fernandes pulled one back with a stunning free kick in the 72nd minute, which was United's first shot at the goal of the game, and almost scored a late winner, although he was refused by Jordan Pickford.
In the meantime, Everton thought they had the chance to win it in a stop time when Ashley Young got a penalty after a tugboat from Harry Maguire, but the decision was destroyed after a VAR rating.
The side of David Moyes went to the 12th in the table, although a point remains above United, which remain 15th at 30 points.

Fernandes led the indictment for his team – he has now had a hand in more Premier League objectives against Everton (11 – six goals, five assists in 11 performances) than against any other side.
Although Moyes will be disappointed that he has not won a third consecutive game against his former team, Everton expanded their undefeated series to six games in the Premier League.
