Unai Emery: Aston Villa boss apologises to fans after FA Cup exit but says Premier League remains priority

Unai Emery apologized to Aston Villa fans after their FA Cup exit to Crystal Palace, but repeated that the Premier League remains its priority.

It pops up for Emery's side for a few days – a tough defeat for colleague Champions League Battlers Manchester City and now this pounding 3-0 loss.

They are in danger of no longer having steam this season and there are four more games to go in the top flight while they try to end in the top five to secure Champions League football.

Emery said: “Our priority is the Premier League. Premier League is the most important.

“I told you every day, we enjoy Champions League and try to get something in the FA Cup, but be consistent by the Premier League.

“The goal is against Fulham next week. I'm sorry for the supporters, but I dominate my frustration.

'We have to take our experiences to grow up. We lost last year in the semi -final [Conference League] And we lose the semi -final of today to Palace.

“We improve a lot. This is the message. We might go slowly, maybe.

“This is the time to dominate our frustration. I am frustrated, but I am so proud of the players we have.

“We try to be ambitious. Winning trophies is very important.”

Glasner: I am not thinking of the final

In a direct contrast with Emery after the result, palace boss Oliver Glasner was in a jovial mood after his side had booked their place in the final, but was cautious to comment on the chances of his team on 17 May.

“I don't know at the moment and don't want to talk about the final today,” he said.

“We have the approach to win it. The players can party tonight, they have a few days off. We will meet on Thursday and then we will prepare.

“The best approach is to show good versions [in the build-up].

“It's a good time for us.”

Over the performance as a whole, Glasner has put all the praise on his players instead of getting the honor for the tactics that have been implemented in the fixture.

Palace allowed Villa that Villa had 70 percent of the possession at Wembley, with a total of 16 shots from the play, but their opponents registered an expected goals value of only 0.99. An honor to the defensive discipline shown by the Eagles.

Glasner continued: “Easy to talk about, but hard to implement. All the credit to the players.

“Great to see today, even after the punishment. We had situations to overcome, but did not lose our head.

“Today we stayed calm and we always stayed on the plan. We received the reward. A great achievement.”
