Ruben Amorim is brutally mocked by fans on social media after Manchester United's League Cup Giant-Killing by Grimsby.
The Red Devils turned out to be the big catch of the round when the Mariners caught a place in round three after they defeated United in a penalty shootout 12-11.
However, when United lagged on 2-0 in the 62nd minute, TV cameras from Focus away from the rain driven pitch to Amorim in his dugout.
The 40-year-old was seen with a laminated tactic board and moving magnetic pieces to indicate a new formation for the team.
But the image of the board in combination with the nature of the occasion, with United 2-0 to a club 58 places among them in the English football pyramid, left many fans in stitches.
And some quickly thinking fans even made mock-up images of Amorim on his tactic board to do other things.
One Photoshopped image let Amorim play with an Etch a Sketch Board.
A second let him play popular board games such as Guess WHO and Operation.
Amorim saw another binder full of Pokémon maps.
A fourth had the former sporty Lisbon boss without his plate, with a few breathing, while instead he made a red, green and yellow scarf.
Some fans shot the sight of the board, with one who said the Portuguese “pretended to look busy”.
After the board of the board, United then scored two goals via Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, although it finally counted for nothing when they crashed after the missed kick van Mbeumo in the shootout.
Amorim could not look from the sidelines during the tense shootout, with a dissatisfied fan labeled him a “coward”.
And Amorim announced his anger on the result after the game.
He said to Sky Sports: “Ultimately, it doesn't matter if we recover or not, it is the signs that the team gave during the game, the start of the game.
“I think the best team has won, the only team that was on the field.
“Losing the best players because one team can win against any group of players, and I think the team and the players spoke very loudly today, so that's it. We lost, won the best team …
“I think it is really clear what they spoke, so let's continue from this day and I think it was clear to everyone what happened today.
“The way we start the game without any intensity, all the idea of the pressure, we were completely lost and that's why I think they spoke very hard.”
Amorim also gave an apology to fans and said: “If you only see something new, it's different. If you see something like today, it's hard to talk about it.
“I just want to say that I really regret the fans. The support they have given me, with all the support they help the team. I have nothing to say. I am really sorry.”
United Face Face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday for the international break.
