United ‘join the hunt to sign Donnarumma ‘ but ‘face the challenge of Chelsea’

Manchester United has reportedly conducted a study into Paris Saint-Germain about the availability of Gianluigi Donnarumma, but a deal is apparently unlikely.

Andre Onana has been the No 1 goalkeeper in Old Trafford for the past two seasons, after his arrival of £ 47.1 million from Inter Milan in July 2023.

Since he had moved to Manchester, Onana – whose last game once for Inter in the UEFA Champions League -Final was – has seen his shares fall considerably.

A series of high-profile errors has led to calls for United to replace the 29-year-old, with United understood in interested in Donnarumma, 26.

Donnarumma has only had a year left to walk with his current contract with PSG, where he has spent the past four seasons.

Nevertheless, the Italian No. 1 would probably still recommend a major transfer costs, not to mention wages that are good than Onana's.

According to journalist Marc Mechenoua, United will probably not continue to strive for his interest in Donnarumma, unless they are first able to raise money and lower their wage account by going on different high-darers.

Mechenoua also claims that Chelsea contacted PSG to ask what is needed to put Donnarumma away from Paris this summer.

Chelsea has Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Gabriel Slonina as their most important goalkeeper options at the moment.

Donnarummas Last recent performance for PSG came against Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final last month in New Jersey.

He was defeated three times when Chelsea takes on a 3-0 win against the European champions.

Donnarumma was then involved in a barrier after the game together with Achraf Hakimi, Luis Enrique and Chelsea Vooruit Joao Pedro.

The start of the Premier League season 2025-26 is now only two weeks away.

Chelsea starts the campaign with a London Derby against Crystal Palace on August 17, where Man United organizes Arsenal the same day later.

United and Chelsea meet on 20 September – with that fixture only a few days after the first round of the competition phase in the Champions League.

United will not be involved in a European competition – for the first time since 2014-15 – after recording their lowest finish in Premier League History (15th) last season.
