The United States will face Venezuela and Costa Rica in two friendlies (not sanctioned by FIFA).
The United States national team roster for the January camp was announced on Monday by new head coach Mauricio Pochettino. The team will meet in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and prepare for two friendlies against Venezuela and Costa Rica later this month.
Given that the matches are outside the official FIFA international schedule, the Argentinian coach will have to focus on local American talent with high-profile stars like Pulisic, McKennie etc. not released by their respective clubs.
As a result, the roster for the tests against Venezuela and Costa Rica will consist of locally based players, with the new domestic MLS season kicking off in mid-February. The USMNT will take on Venezuela at Inter Miami's Chase Stadium (Saturday, January 18), while the test against Costa Rica will take place the following Wednesday (January 22) in Orlando.
Pochettino will have a valuable opportunity to evaluate a new group of players with the 2026 World Cup looming next year and the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup next on the agenda when it comes to major international competitions.
The team consists of a mix of familiar faces such as Zack Steffen, Tim Ream, Walker Zimmerman, Miles Robinson or Jesús Ferreira, but also includes newer faces such as: Patrick Schulte, John Tolkin, Jack McGlynn or Caden Clark.
