Fans of the USMNT lagged in disbelief after civil servants gone a handball appetizer during their Gold Cup defeat.
On Sunday evening the side of Mauricio Pochettino was set aside by Mexico after a late goal from midfielder Edson Alvarez had achieved a historic 2-1 victory.
However, it could have been very different, after the USMNT thought they would get a spot kick while the score was still the same.
In the 66th minute – with the score bound on 1-1 – Full -back Max Arfsten tried to break the defense of Mexico, but was prevented by Jorge Sanchez.
After winning the ball, however, Sanchez lost his foot and shamelessly put his hand on the ball to regain his balance.
Despite the clear infringement, referee Mario Escobar waved at stake and eventually Mexico went out the victory and the title itself.
Images showed USMNT manager Pochettino who rumbled with civil servants and argue for an explanation why they did not get a penalty.
The former Tottenham boss later made his feelings clear in his press conference after the game. He said: “I'm not going to cry. I want to tell the truth.
“And the truth is that if that happened in the other half, in the other box, is definitely a penalty.”
Fans on social media echoed Pochettino's thoughts while they were insisting that the match in favor of Mexico was 'decorated'.

In the night, after scoring, Mexico -striker Raul Jimenez brought an emotional tribute to the former teammate Diogo Jota.
Jimenez pulled Mexico level in the 27th minute on Sunday evening after Chris Richards fired the USMNT after just four minutes.
In the end, Edson Alvarez proved the hero for El Tri at NRG Stadium in Texas when he appeared with the game-winning goal 13 minutes than time.
Jota, who helped Liverpool to win the Premier League title last season, and his younger brother Andre Silva was killed tragically in a car accident close to the Portuguese border in the northwest of Spain asked on Thursday morning.
Jimenez who played next to Jota for two years at Wolves before the last move to Liverpool in 2020, marked his equal strike by sitting on the grass and recreating Diogo's characteristic gaming celebration next to a special no. 20 Jersey with his name.
