Virgil van Dijk insists that there is progress in his contractsaga and that there should soon be a solution.
Liverpool has clearly stormed up to 11 points in the Premier League title race, but there is a shadow of uncertainty about their season with three of their best players from contract this summer: Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Van Dijk was repeatedly asked about his future this season and has now given an indication that it comes to a conclusion.
Asked if there was progress, he said, “There is progress, yes.”
Pushed to work out if that meant that he was staying in Liverpool, the captain replied: “I don't know, we will see.”
When they were further questioned by Postsport and asked what he meant by 'progress', Van Dijk laughs – he often does that when asked for his contract, because there is a current joke that is asked to him every week without a definitive answer – and said:' Listen, these are internal discussions and we will see.
'I love the club, I love the fans and they were there again for us (in Fulham). We wanted to reward them, but I ask them to be there again on Sunday and to turn the stadium into a great location as always for us. '
Of the so-called contract three, Van Dijk and Salah are always seen as a more chance of staying than Alexander-Arnold. The right -hand side has an offer on the table of Real Madrid and it is generally thought that he ends up in the Spanish capital, although nothing is officially signed.
Last week there was a lot of talking that Salah was close to the signing, with a lot of Egypt excitedly. Those suggestions were somewhat premature, although there is a feeling that Salah will eventually register.
In an interview last month, Van Dijk spoke about his worship for the club and spoke about his regular family life in the northwest. Boss Arne Slot has been recorded to say how much he would like his skipper to sit.
In the meantime, the Dutchman thinks that the first half of Liverpool was not acceptable in Fulham's 3-2 defeat in Fulham-and they must retain their mentality that the work is not being done in the title race.
Asked if Slot was angry in the break, Van Dijk said: 'Yes, of course. It was clearly more encouraging during the break. We can also talk about the tactics, but he told us that we were sloppy and let them score three goals. It was not acceptable as a team.
'It was a bad day at the office for all of us. I think they were individual moments that should have been treated better. These moments can happen in games, but if you let them back in, they clearly scored three goals and we were on the back foot.
'Nobody can ever be perfect and we were sloppy and today we were quickly punished and as I said, it is a difficult struggle to play.
'We still had the conviction, still had opportunities, but based on the first half you cannot argue with the result.
'We all know as players (that nothing is being won yet), I have called it to you every week, but what is important is that there are seven games left next Sunday and further to West Ham, as a team we have to go home completely, as players with the fans and to get the three points.
'We will train a lot and we are in a very good position, but games like this, especially in the first half, show that the job was not done and I said it every week. That is definitely the mentality in our group that the work has not been done. '
