Virgil van Dijk maintains that he does not know if he will be in Liverpool next season and claims that someone who says otherwise lies.
Van Dijk says that his representatives remain in conversation with Liverpool while the weeks continue to count down until the end of his current contract on 30 June. The Reds Skipper says he doesn't know what will happen if he is still in Anfield to lead the team next season.
Liverpool is also locked up in contacts with top scorer Mohamed Salah and Vice-Captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and both will become free agents in the summer.
Salah wants longer conditions on better money than Liverpool so far will be willing to offer and it is generally expected that Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid, who had a brutal £ 20 million bid for the English star rejected in January.
The constant stalemate in conversations has fed Van Dijk that Van Dijk secretly agreed with Liverpool to stay and that both parties refuse to become public out of respect for the negotiations with Salah and Alexander-Arnold. Van Dijk, 33, rejects this and insists that his focus is not on his future, but on lifting the Carabao Cup and completing the title in the remaining 10 games of Liverpool.
When asked whether he will be back next season for a new crack in the Champions League after the Exit of Liverpool on a penalty shoot-out to Paris St Germain, half of the Netherlands said: “|
“I still have no idea at the moment. Really, I have no idea right now. Conversations are not on hold, there is nothing on hold. I keep saying the same. Listen, there are still 10 games to go and that is my full focus.
“If there is news, you will know. I don't even know myself. Everyone knows that there are some conversations behind the scenes, but it is.
“At the moment I don't even know what will happen next year. If someone says they know, they lie to your face. “
