Virgil van Dijk put Pen on paper for a new two -year -old deal to stay in Liverpool and will earn around £ 400,000 a week, making him the best -paid defender in Europe.
But according to a report, the Dutchman, 33, is still a long way of the best -paid defender in world football.
The Reds skipper finally finished months of speculation about his future with the announcement of the new deal that will hold him in Anfield until at least 2027.
His expansion, who follows that of Mohamed Salah, who also wrote a lucrative two-year-old deal to stay with the club, breaks with tradition for the Reds-Hierarchy that have been reluctant to distribute large contracts to players in their thirty.
But the talents of Van Dijk, who helped the Anfield Club within two victories of securing the Premier League title, need his services.
Despite the lucrative conditions, however, the impressive center-back remains a long way to be the best retrieved defenders in the world.
That honor is of the former Napoli and Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly, who changed Stamford Bridge for Riyad in 2023.
According to data from Capology, the 33-year-old receives £ 553,225 for his services at the Saudi Pro League outfit.
Ex-Manchester City Defender and colleague Saudi Pro League star Aymeric Laporte completes the top-three best paid defenders with a weekly salary of £ 390.627.
When it comes to defenders who are currently on their trade in Europe, David Alaba van Real Madrid is the second highest star with a salary of £ 358,739, while Paris Saint-Germain-Stars Achraf Hakimi and Lucas Hernandez £ 347.897 and £ 302.935 take on.
Then comes the Premier League duo from John Stones and Reece James. Both defenders have struggled with fitness lately, but they will undoubtedly have been chosen by their £ 250,000 wage packages.
Ex-City star Joao Cancelo and Bayern Munich Speedster Alphonso Davies complete the top 10.
After completing his new deal, Van Dijk told the club's official website: 'I am very happy, very proud. There are clearly so many emotions that now go through my head, talk about it now.
“It's a proud feeling, it's a feeling of joy. It's just incredible. The journey that I have had so far in my career, to be able to extend it in this club for another two years, is great and I am so happy. '
He added: 'It was always Liverpool. That was the case. It was always in my head, it was always the plan and it was always Liverpool.
“There was no doubt in my head that this is the place to be for me and my family. I am one of Liverpool. Someone recently called me an adopted scouser – I am really proud to hear these things, it gives me a great feeling. '
