Van Dijk urges Liverpool fans to make Anfield ‘horrible’

Virgil van Dijk has encouraged Liverpool fans to make Anfield a “terrible” place to go for rival teams while trying to secure the Premier League title.

The Reds moves 11 points free from Arsenal at the top of the table after a 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday; It is their biggest lead in second place at the end of a day since the last day of the 2019-20 campaign (18), when they last won the title.

Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai got the goals when Liverpool claimed their first victory in Etihad Stadium since November 2015.

That victory, in combination with the 1-0 defeat of Arsenal against West Ham on Saturday, means that the Opta-Supercomputer Liverpool now gives a chance of 96.7% to win the competition, whereby the probers are cut to 3.3%, even with their play in hand.

Liverpool also has the advantage that he plays seven of their remaining 11 Premier League matches at home, and Van Dijk believes that the crowd can play a major role.

“I called it afterwards [Wolves] game, that's of course quite normal to be [nervous] So, “he said.

“It's a human being [reaction] That some fearful feelings can be in operation, and that can still be the case.

“But I think it's helping us and only them [the supporters] And to make Anfield terrible for the opponent. Usually we have done that, and of course the way we play helps with that.

“How many home games about it? Seven of the 11. So let's make sure that those seven will be great possible, as loud as possible. I don't think we should talk about it because, normally, that is the case.

“So let's go, enjoy, focus on Wednesday [against Newcastle United] Now, and then we will see what happens next. “

Van Dijk played every minute of the Premier League campaign from Liverpool (2,340) and will probably continue that run against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

Since losing their first Premier League home match against Newcastle with 2-0 in April 1994, Liverpool has been unbeaten in their last 28 against the Magpies in Anfield in the competition (W23 D5).

Despite their big lead in the title race, Van Dijk, who could leave Liverpool with his current deal in June at the end of the season, takes nothing for granted.

“[City] Was a big win, “Van Dijk added.” I said to the boys, “don't take these victories for granted, but if you go home, recovery and be ready to prepare for Newcastle.”

“That is all we have to do. Tunnel Vision. Nothing else really matters. And we need our fans to be in good condition on Wednesday.”
