Virgil van Dijk thinks that Liverpool will only get better and will 'improve 100 percent' next season, with the Dutchman at the aim of signing a two -year deal at the club.
Mail Sport reported last week that there had been a big breakthrough in the long -term contractsaga for the captain to stay in the club. That will soon be announced with only formalities.
After scoring an 89th minute winner against West Ham to take Liverpool at a moving distance from a 20th English league title, Van Dijk opened his love for the club and challenged them to become even better.
“Liverpool should be able to challenge titles in the coming years,” said the captain. 'Whatever happens in terms of players who go out and players who come in, I think it should be a big summer.
'I think they are planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board as a Liverpool -connected fan to do the right work.
'And hopefully the club will also be a challenge for titles in the coming two seasons.
'I think we can improve 100 percent. I think we should not forget the quality that the Premier League owns, especially this season in my opinion. It is incredible how everyone can beat everyone.
'But take it all the way back to last summer, L did not have a good pre-season. I think I came in on Monday before we played Seville (in a friendly one) and I played 90 minutes immediately, then it was Ipswich (first competition match) the next week and then you're just back in it.
'You don't have time to work on what the manager really wants in terms of a training camp. This year there is a training camp and there is time for the team to work on what the manager wants and I think that will improve the team.
'There are still so many things to improve, but we should not forget the quality that the Premier League owns because we see it. I think a good pre-season would certainly help the club to be even more consistent than we have already been. '
Van Dijk was in a relaxed mood, laughing and a joke with reporters when he was asked about his contract Saga, which finally comes to a conclusion.
He clearly itched to be able to confirm it officially – but until that time the focus says it is not on that, but on commemorating the victims of Hillsborough at the 36 -year anniversary this week.
“Now the focus will be on the Hillsborough jubilee in the coming days, because that is the most important thing and then to Leicester at the weekend,” he said. “I told you last week that there was progress, so we'll see.”
As for the new two -year -old deal from Salah, he said: 'Of course very happy for the club and all of us connected to the club. You can't put it in words how consistent he is. You can't put it in words how consistent he is.
'Of course his figures, but the work percentage that he has introduced to the club for the past eight years is incredible and he can show it for a few years.
'I became at the club for many reasons in 2017. Reasons such as how much it means for all scousers, for all fans around the world to be connected to Liverpool.
'Being successful with Liverpool, the culture of the club, everything that embodies Liverpool that only part of me is. That is why I am always proud when I wear that shirt, go outside and try to be the best version of myself in terms of the football player I am.
“We are two wins, six points away from glory. I know what it means for the club and I know what it will bring us when it happens. Not most players, so if it happens, it will be nice, but we still have a job to do.
'But going back to the fact that I love the club, that is pretty clear. I think you can see that in the way I talk about the club, the way I work for the club in terms of what I do on the field on and next to the field, and that will always be the same.
'Let's see how this week is going. At first I think that all the focus should go to Hillsborough's jubilee. That is the most important and then we will see. The focus will still be on Leicester, but maybe there is something new. Don't know. I know, but I don't know! '
