Van Nistelrooy laments individual mistakes in disappointing Leicester defeat

Ruud van Nistelrooy lamented Leicester City's individual mistakes as they suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Wolves.

First-half goals from Goncalo Guedes, Rodrigo Gomes and Matheus Cunha gave Wolves and new boss Vitor Pereira a crucial win in the battle against relegation.

It is the first time in Premier League history that Leicester have lost at home to Wolves, having won four and drawn two of their previous six games, while this was the Foxes' first league defeat by three or more goals on home soil since May. 2023 against Liverpool (3-0).

It was the second successive heavy defeat for Leicester after their 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United last weekend, and Van Nistelrooy was frustrated by how easily his side gave away scoring opportunities.

“It is obviously very disappointing,” Van Nistelrooy told BBC Sport.

“You look at how the goals were given away, probably more because of the individual mistakes. It happened too much today.”

Before this match, Leicester have scored in all eight home games in the Premier League this season, scoring five goals in their previous two such matches under Van Nistelrooy.

The Dutchman was disappointed that his side could not repeat the first two games of his stewardship.

“It's a disappointing one. We couldn't give the crowd a good afternoon of football, which we did in the previous two games and managed to win the place,” he added.

“Now that's two setbacks and major challenges ahead.”

Leicester's next match is an away match against leaders Liverpool on Boxing Day.
