Viktor Gyokeres can say goodbye to Sporting Lisbon earlier instead of later. The Swedish striker is strongly connected to a stunning move to Arsenal.
He reportedly gave priority to moving to the Emirates Stadium despite interest from their Premier League -rival Manchester United. If he chooses to release a farewell message to his current employers, it can tell somewhat given the circumstances of his departure.
It has been reported that Gyokees was willing to strike after he had remained furious by exercising to return agreement to sell him for a reduced compensation. He has also rejected conversations with sports.
It all means that the way of departure will be completely different from his first switch to sport. The striker signed for the Portuguese giants in 2023 after a productive spell with Coventry.
And it was certainly clear how much the Midlands Club meant for him during his farewell message that was shared on the social media account of the club. He said: “Hello, Viktor here. Where to start … it has been a fantastic journey in the last two and a half years in Coventry City. We have experienced many different challenges and I just think we have held together all the time.
“As a family, both players and staff, and of course the fans, and everyone else around the club, and I think we showed that, especially last season when we had a very difficult start of the season, when we could play none of the home games and play the bottom of the table. And we still believed in the goals we had to make the play-offs and we worked in the end.
“And we also made it to the final. Of course we didn't win the way we all wanted and all dreamed to do, but that's life. But I am just very grateful for all the memories we have made together and the friends I made in Coventry.”
He added: “The support of the fans has been unbelievable, the Sky Blue Army is something special and something that I will never forget. I just wanted to thank the support I received from the Gaffer, Adi (Viveash), Dennis (Lawrence), the help of Richard and Vinnie and everyone I have stopped for the best for this video.
