Viktor Gyokees had seen to have excluded a move to Manchester United after their failure of the Champions League – who placed Arsenal in pole position – but the sporty Lisbon star might have had a change of heart
Victor Gyokeres seems to have changed his number and is now open to a move to Manchester United – even though they did not have Champions League football – which it was believed to have been a determining factor.
The Swede has long been expected to leave Sporting Lisbon and Arsenal as his most likely destination when he went to the Premier League. But now a reunion with Ruben Amorim can be on the maps, Talksport reports.
No formal conversations have been held between those in Manchester and sporty bosses, but the aim of the Red Devils for a new striker is well documented. The Portuguese side wants around £ 60 million for Gyökeres – which is a £ 25 million reduction on his release clause of £ 85 million.
Gyokees has a verbal agreement with sport, which means he can leave less after he has chosen to stay in Lisbon last summer. Just like United, Arsenal is on the market for a new frontman after he has chosen to sign a new No. 9 for different windows.
However, Mirror Football understands that Arsenal gives priority to Benjamin Sesko. Arsenal's sports director Andrea Berta has negotiated at the same time with representatives of both players and their respective clubs while the Gunners are looking for the best deal. However, the decision under the hierarchy of the club is to continue their dive for the RB Leipzig Forward, instead of Gyokeres.
That would leave the Swede, who scored more than 50 times in all competitions, looking for a new buyer. Several of Europe's top clubs do not want to add a striker, which means that, even for a player of his quality, options may be limited.
Amorim was the man who signed Gyokeres after he was impressed by the championship with Coventry City and later helped him become one of the most productive strikers in Europe. The United Boss has just missed Liam Delap, who chose to join Chelsea, which will assess other options. Matheus Cunha has already been signed for £ 62.5 million.
The 27-year-old has just helped with the sporty claim the Double and has remained tight at his future. He said: “Let's take a look. It's hard for me to say, because yes, it's football and you never know what will happen in the summer. So for me to say something different than that is impossible.”
Gyokees was specifically asked about the possibility of becoming a member of Arsenal and added: “I don't know, I concentrate myself here alone. I tried to concentrate on the latest games because it is so important and I don't want to think about anything else. So yes, if there is something true, let's look in the summer.”
