Sporting Lisbon -striker Viktor Gyokeres leaves Portugal in the summer transfer window, but his destination remains uncertain, with Manchester United and Arsenal in competition
Manchester United and Arsenal have now had a blow with a third club in the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window. Sporting Lisbon striker Gyokeres is one of the most sought after players when the window will open on 1 June.
The Sweden International has registered 43 goals and 11 assists in 43 games in all games for sport this season. The Portuguese side knows that they cannot hold him much longer and would have agreed to sell it for under his release clause as a thank you for his excellent service.
It is believed that it will be available for around £ 50-60 million-in-law than his reported release clause of £ 83.6 million. United -manager Ruben Amorim worked with Gyokeres at Sporting and is understandably wanted to recruit Old Trafford, where goals were hard to find.
In the meantime, Arsenal is ready to splash the money at a top quality center after injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus played a role in their Premier League title Push Fal Faling.
The Gunners have hired ex-Atletico Madrid sports director Andrea Berta to lead their pursuit to a striker, where Gyokeres understood the list at the top of the Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.
However, it will not be a straight shoot-out between the two Premier League giants, where the sun reports that Al Qadsiah is ready to pay above the asking price for gyokees. The Saudi Pro League-Kant Die already employs Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-Gelooft that they can compete because they will pay more in advance, instead of distributing the costs in installments.
The rise of Saudi sides has caused a wrinkle in the market, where the money is available in the Middle East with knock-on effects. It is still to be seen whether Gyokees will be tempted by the offer from Saudi Aarabia, since he is 26 years old and on the edge of the most important step in his career.
Gyokeres is said to have set his heart to move to a large European giant, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG or Bayern Munich mentioned as potential destinations in recent reports. Although the prospect of working with Amorim again, United could give a lead, their current low position of the 13th in the Premier League – and therefore could count the lack of Champions League football next season.
Speaking earlier this year he admitted that he hopes to play for “one of the best teams in Europe”. But this summer there will be a balancing act between the wishes of Gyokeres and the desire of Sporting to secure the largest transfer costs.
The Portuguese club placed a net loss of £ 15 million on transfers in their most recent accounts and know that players such as gyokores do not often come by.
