Vinicius handed two-match suspension, cleared to play in Supercopa

Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior has been handed a two-match ban following his red card for violent conduct against Valencia last week.

Vinicius was sent off for punching Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the second half at the Mestalla Stadium when his team were 1-0 down.

They eventually recovered to win 2–1, keeping themselves two points clear of Atletico Madrid at the top of LaLiga.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti then expressed his hope that Vinicius would avoid a ban despite red cards for violent conduct, which usually carries a three-match penalty.

Following an appeal from the club, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has suspended the Brazilian for two league matches, while he has been allowed to participate in the Supercopa de España in Saudi Arabia.

Madrid, who sit at the top of the LaLiga table with 43 points, will look to retain their Supercopa title this week.

In the semi-finals they will face Real Mallorca, with Barcelona or Athletic Bilbao waiting for the winners.
