Vinicius Jr requests retraction from La Liga President over piracy claim

Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has personally asked La Liga president Javier Tebas to retract his words about the Brazilian last week. Tebas publicly accused Vinicius of using a pirate stream to watch Liverpool against Real Madrid in Spain, but the Brazilian assures this is not the case.

Vinicius posted a photo on social media of the match on his TV, cheering on his teammates. Tebas then appeared at an anti-piracy conference in Buenos Aires two days later and said the following.

“If it is in Madrid, and I think it was in Madrid, it is piracy. Access to the content to watch the Champions League in Spain must be through Movistar Television.”

“To view this content you will need a VPN or a satellite dish pointed elsewhere. There must be active behavior that falls outside the scope of Movistar. He was hacking the game.”

However, a source revealed to ESPN that Vinicius watched the game on an international plan with a Brazilian operator, allowing him to access the game without geographical restrictions. The player's camp has shown evidence of this to La Liga and asked Tebas to retract his claims that Vinicius illegally streamed the game.

Tebas has made pirate football streaming his main topic for the past two years and says he spends 60% of his time on the issue. He has refused to acknowledge criticism that watching Spanish football is more expensive than anywhere else in Europe, claiming La Liga is missing out on €600 million a season due to pirate streams.
