Virgil van Dijk supports Darwin Nunez to have a major impact on the remaining matches of Liverpool, but the leader of Liverpool has repeated Arne Slot
Reds -Baas Slot interviewed Nunez's work ethics after his last shocking Miss against Aston Villa a week ago – and then decided to hold the Uruguay International against Manchester City on Sunday.
But Nunez was back in action during Wednesday's victory against Newcastle, a rehearsal of next month's EFL Cup next month at Wembley of next month, and Van Dijk said that players had to make the best efforts at all times: “That is the absolute minimum of the entire team of day one.
“But that is the absolute minimum for playing for Liverpool anyway. It was more to him and it is still up to him, but I think he has shown a great reaction in his work percentage and came up today. That should be the minimum and he knows.
“Everyone plays a major role. I mentioned it last week after Aston Villa. We are all in this together and we need everyone. He is also a large part of the team and when he comes up, he must have a positive impact. We have to maintain that.”
The beating of Newcastle moved Liverpool 13 points free from Arsenal, who were unable to find a road along Nottingham Forest at the same time.
But Van Dijk is determined that Liverpool is not yet watching a title party.
The captain added: “There is no 'almost there'. There are still 10 games to go for us and nothing is decided.
“You have to enjoy winning games, but not too long because we almost play every three days. That is all we have to do: prepare for the following. It was an intense 15 days with many intense games and we came out pretty well.
“We have brought ourselves into a very good position, but it does not mean that nothing has been done yet. There is no room for complacency.”
Liverpool has the weekend off before he travels to Paris Saint-Germain for the first stage of their Champions League round of 16 a draw next Wednesday.
