Vivianne Miedema injury: Man City star could be ruled out for rest of season ahead of Man Utd clash

Manchester City could be without Vivianne Miedema for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury.

Miedema sustained the problem during the 3-1 victory of the Netherlands over Austria on Tuesday and came in the second half, about 15 minutes after he was introduced as a replacement.

The 28-year-old let her return to the field in November 2024 after missing 11 months because of an ACL injury and now seems like a new spell on the sidelines.

City interim boss Nick Cushing told a press conference prior to Sunday's semi-final against Manchester United at the Joie Stadium: “She is with the medical team.

“She is positive, we are positive, but it doesn't look good in the sense that they are able to influence one of our games.

“It is enormously disappointing for VIV because of the role she played on the field, she has been so crucial in the results.

“She played a major role in dragging this team and she is still doing the same thing today in the meeting room and on the training pitch.

“She is now going to concentrate on her rehabilitation and we will give her all the support she needs.”

Miedema has scored nine goals and has provided two assists in her 14 performances in all competitions since he struck Arsenal for the city last summer – and now contributes to the growing injury problems for Cushing and his team.

Another player who will miss Sunday's game, Khadija Shaw, with the Jamaica Forward, is not ready to return after putting the last four games aside.

Shaw leads the road in scoring City with 15 goals in her name this season, which means that City will be without two of their most important target threats prior to the semi -final meeting with their rivals.

Cushing emphasized caution would be taken if a number of players continue with their recoveries.

He added: “We have Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp on the field, Rebecca Knaake trained today, Aoba Fujino, but we can't afford to injure it again.”
