Real Betis struggled this season halfway through the point, but with less than a month to go, they are in the middle of the fight for a Champions League place, and halfway through the final of the Conference League, after having taken an advantage over Fiorentina in the first stage in the Benito Villamarin. Moreover, the atmosphere in the green half of Sevilla could not be better.
After their efforts on Thursday evening, Real Betis was away from home against Espanyol for a discouraging task. Los Pericos had been unbeaten at home since October and one of the shape sides in 2025, with the impressive Joan Garcia in a brilliant form in Doel. To make matters worse, Espanyol took the lead in the first half via Roberto Fernandez.
Betis, however, threw everything they had in the second half, and Giovani Lo Celso drew a level with an incredible solo effort from close to half the line. While the clock tapped to the 90th minute, Antony continued his incredible resort arch and hit the ball in the stamp for an exciting comeback victory.
After the game, Betis traveled back to the Andalusian capital, and when their bus returned to the Benito Villamarin, they were greeted by a few hundred fans. The atmosphere could not have been better, with the ecstatic fans welcome them a hero. Isco was hoisted on the fans' shoulders after he had come out of the team bus, and both he and Marc Bartra were in the middle of the songs.
Betis is a point of Villarreal and Four off Athletic Club with four more League matches to come, and a place in the Champions League on the line. That would be their first in two decades, the last qualification in 2005, and they have Osasuna, Rayo Vallecano, Atletico Madrid and Valencia, but also have to compete with one or two games in the Conference League. Beating Fiorentina and then one of Djurgardens or Chelsea in the final would mean a very first European trophy for Betis ever.
