Former Barcelona, Liverpool and Uruguay Vooruit Luis Suarez has again been caught biting another player on the football field. The now Inter Miami striker ended this time for long-term Barcelona and Miami teammate Jordi Alba.
The 38-year-old has undoubtedly been one of the best players in the game in the first quarter of the 21st century, who plays in iconic teams of Uruguay, Liverpool and Barcelona, and write history for Atletico Madrid. That will be the story of his career, but his ability to flare up his mood during games is perhaps the B -side.
Suarez moved to Inter Miami in January 2024 and left Gremio in Brazil to join former Barcelona teammates and friends Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, now with another former Barcelona man in Javier Mascherano on the couch. During Sunday's 0-0 draw between Inter Miami and Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, Tempers flared up in the 89th minute, as noted by Cadena Cope. This time Suarez played Peacemaker in theory while trying to keep Alba out of the Melee, but while the Catalan left back tried to push him away, Suarez can be biting his fingers.
Suarez has of course had to deal with problems with biting the field in the past, with earlier incidents that took place during his time in Liverpool and at the 2014 World Cup with Uruguay. He received a ban of 10 games in Anfield after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, and a much longer ban of four months to do the same for Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.
The clinical attacker would then sign for Barcelona for a € 70 million shortly thereafter from Liverpool, which missed the first few months of the competition. After having spent his first time in the Barcelona on the right with Lionel Messi, the two would change position in January 2015, winning the Treble with the same season. Suarez recently claimed that his bite on Chiellini cost him the chance to become a member of Real Madrid.
