Valencia have been struggling at the bottom of the table this season and there was probably no worse opponent to face at the start of 2025. However, with a new manager at the helm, Valencia has made a first start.
Los Che came out of the blocks quickly and created three good chances in the first fifteen minutes. Carlos Corberan sent his team out to press high, but the impact came just before the half-hour mark when Los Blancos had settled down a bit.
A flowing move from Javi Guerra almost ended with him, but Thibaut Courtois got a hand on his effort. However, no one could follow Hugo Duro on the rebound, who had an easy finish for the first goal of the Corberan era.
A lead after just half an hour against Real Madrid is far from decisive, and Corberan will be aware that his team still has a long way to go.
