Real Madrid is under pressure to respond after victories for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, and so far they are on track to keep pace in the La Liga title race after double their benefit against Girona in the Santiago Bernabeu.
The opening 40 minutes were difficult for Real Madrid when they had trouble creating opportunities, but they have now taken the lead – and it was a special goal of Luka Modric that broke the impasse. The second goal has long come to the side of Carlo Ancelotti, but it is now thanks to Vinicius Junior.
