Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior received the third red card of his career on Friday evening after pushing Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the face. The Real Madrid star did not go down quietly either.
Following a VAR review, Vinicius was shown a red card by the referee and had to be restrained by teammate Antonio Rudiger and a staff member after attempting to chase the referee.
That could have been fortunate for Vinicius, who, according to Relevo, risks a suspension of at least two games for his broadcast. Depending on whether the CTA considers the incident “aggression” rather than violent conduct, that ban could last four matches, and two more matches could be added for his protests, although it's not yet clear whether he will be punished for his protests or not.
What suspension he will be handed will probably not be known until Tuesday, as Monday is a national holiday and Los Blancos may not receive the ban until their Copa del Rey match with Deportiva Minera. The two-to-four match ban could apply in the Copa, Spanish Super Cup and/or La Liga, potentially banning him from the entire second competition, while the two matches due to protest are only enforceable in La Liga.
It should be noted that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has stated that the club will appeal the decision as he felt his original pressure on Dimitrievski was judged harshly. The next six matches in which Vinicius could serve a suspension are against Deportiva Minera (Copa), RCD Mallorca (Spanish Super Cup, with a possible final on the horizon), Las Palmas, Real Valladolid, Espanyol and Atletico Madrid (La Liga). In between those matches, Real Madrid will complete their Champions League campaign against RB Salzburg and Brest, although Vinicius will not be suspended for those games.
