Two well-taken goals from Vakoun Bayo gave Watford a 2-1 win over West Brom at Vicarage Road, putting Tom Cleverley's side back into play-off contention.
The Ivory Coast striker slotted home a first-half header before superb control off his chest early in the second period ended with a shot onto the swivel.
The win lifted Watford above their opponents and into seventh place in the Championship, behind only Middlesbrough on goal difference, while West Brom saw a twelve-match unbeaten run come to an end.
Bayo's nine league goals this season have come across just five matches, including four in a 6-2 win over Hull last month.
The 27-year-old is notoriously inconsistent in front of goal and even in this match he wasted two chances that were just as presentable as the two he took.
Bayo made space in the eighth minute to accept a pass from Giorgi Chakvetadze, but then received an awkward touch and opted to try to find a teammate rather than attempt to shoot. The movement came to a shuddering halt.
Bayo made amends in the 35th minute when he neatly converted Rocco Vata's clipped cross, who had earlier hit the West Brom crossbar with a rising drive.
The visitors created few chances, although Jayson Molumby will have cursed when his shot on goal was blocked by his teammate Tom Fellows.
They then made their way into Watford's area on the stroke of half-time, but the final exchange between Callum Styles, Josh Maja and Karlan Grant was so close that the ball eventually just bounced off Grant's foot. and rolled towards the grateful Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.
They were punished within five minutes of the restart, but not before Bayo had smashed a close-range volley into the midriff of West Brom stopper Alex Palmer.
His goal three minutes later, receiving another Vata cross on his chest before smashing the ball home in one move, was glorious.
West Brom looked beaten at the time but restored hope when Molumby sided home after Mikey Johnston's shot had been blocked by Ryan Porteous.
Suddenly they regained hope and roused their traveling supporters as the game swung from one end to the other.
Kwadwo Baah saw a shot blocked by Baggies skipper Kyle Bartley before Bachmann was needed to secure Watford's win, punching away Darnell Furlong's header in stoppage time.
