Wayne Rooney has shown confidence in Ramus Hojlund, despite the goal of the Manchester United striker during a gloomy season for his team.
The Denmark striker has not found the Premier League just since his strike in the 3-2 defeat of Man United by Nottingham Forest on December 7.
His last goals for the club came to Viktoria Plzen on December 12 when he yielded a two -squeeze.
Hojlund has often been one of the most criticized players in the Red Devil team in a campaign that has been far from successful under Erik ten Hag and now Ruben Amorim.
United is from both domestic cups, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, after their defeats from Fulham and Tottenham respectively, and are 14th place in the Premier League.
However, the icon of the Red Devils Rooney has shown the trust in Hojlund's ability for the goal, because the 39-year-old hinted that the Danish striker may not have received the 'service' needed to lead the team.
“You know, a striker for Manchester United, if you don't score goals, there is a lot of busy, many people talking about you,” he said on competition of the day after the last whistle of Arsenal's competition on Sunday.
'Can you do it for Manchester United? I think it is best to simplify it and it is of course to make the runs in penalty boxes as easy when it comes – you have to run them.
'But simplify the game, get the ball, lie off, get in the box, get the ball wide out, get into the penalty box and put yourself in the best position to score goals.
'You trust nine out of 10 on your teammates to give your chances and put the ball in the box or slide balls behind it.
'Maybe he (Hojlund) did not do that – he has not received that service lately. But I have faith in him.
'I think he is a good player and he works hard. I think that is really important. I think he just needs that goal and as soon as he has it, they will all begin to come. '
Rooney's comments came after Hojlund was dropped on Sunday from the startline-up for the 1-1 draw of United against Arsenal in Old Trafford.
The Red Devils opened the lead through the free -step goal of Bruno Fernandes in the stopping time of the first half, only to be canceled by Declan Rice in the 74th minute.
Joshua Zirkzee took Hojlund's place as the No. 9 – shifted from his role as one of the two nr. 10s.
The 22-year-old appeared in the 76th minute but did not succeed in giving a significant impact on the game, and concluded it easily with only one shot by Arsenal defenders in the late stages.
But Amorim insisted that the shape of Hojlund was not the reason why the striker was gesturing against the Gunners.
“No, it's fresh,” the Portuguese said. “I think he was really tired at the end of the game. And we have tried several things. '
Hojlund moved to Manchester in the summer of 2023 under former manager Ten Hag for £ 72 million from Atalanta.
Although his first season was far from brilliant, the striker managed to find the back of the net 16 times in 43 performances.
United is now focusing their attention on the Europa League. They organize Real Sociedad on the last 16 podium on Thursday after last week's home leg in Spain 1-1 ends.
