Wayne Rooney says that Aston Villa's lack of experience was responsible for a difficult first half against Paris Saint-Germain.
The men of Unai Emery were aggregated 5-2 during the break after admitting goals of Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.
Firstly, an error by Emiliano Martinez led to the opener of Hakimi before Mendes finished a counterattack to make the aggregated score 5-1.
Three Villa goals from Youri Tielemans, John McGinn and Ezri Konsa have since inspired the hope for a remarkable comeback, with the game still underway, but Rooney still thinks that their first half misery was a lack of experience.
“It's not tactical, you see a lack of players playing at this level,” he told Amazon Prime Video Sports.
'Villa has to take the game for next year and move forward because they have no experience at this level.
'You can press at the right time, forcing them at the right time in positions where they have bodies.
“You have really good attacking players at PSG who will punish you.”
