Legend Wayne Rooney from Manchester United admits that he would not welcome Alexander Isak in the fold if he was a player in Newcastle after the recent attempt by the Swede to force a move to Liverpool
Wayne Rooney condemned Alexander Isak's efforts to enforce a step from Newcastle, more than 10 years after the offer of England to facilitate a departure from Manchester United. The Sweden International is involved in the most poisonous saga of the summer transfer window while trying to leave the Premier League side after three years on Tyneside.
Liverpool made an £ 110 million offer for his services, which was quickly rejected at the start of the month. And Isak reportedly refused to play for the club again, even though he has three years on his contract.
The 25-year-old broke his silence for the first time this summer earlier this week, where he accused the hierarchy of the club to break “promises”. Isak was absent in the matchday team of the League opener of the Magpies against Aston Villa, which they pulled 0-0.
With less than 10 days left in the window, it is still to be seen whether Isak – who has only trained – will conquer his dream movement to Anfield or whether Eddie Howe succeeds in holding his star man. He is not expected to meet Liverpool on Monday evening.
Much have had their control over the behavior of Isak to remove a move, in which Rooney admitted that if he was a teammate of the Swede, he would not welcome him back.
Although there is no evidence that the Red Devil icon refused to train or play in the two cases he asked to leave Old Trafford, he stated that there were correct ways to request an exit.
“When I am a player in Newcastle, I don't want Isak back,” he said on the Wayne Rooney show of the BBC. “I think that if players leave football clubs and that happens always is a way to tackle it. You can't go on strike, don't show up for training and training with your teammates.
“If you want to leave the club or not, you have to be there for your teammates and be ready when needed. So I think if I was a player, I wouldn't want him back. He didn't want to leave you. He doesn't want to be there, he doesn't want to be your teammate. So I wouldn't want him back.”
It was in 2010 when Rooney first submitted a transfer request to leave United, but eventually chose to stay before he signed a bumper five -year -old deal, because Ferguson eventually shut a blind eye for the first Saga where the player wanted to come to Chelsea.
It was only three years later, in the previous season of Sir Alex Ferguson, who asked Rooney again to leave the club, where the shot that the club confirmed had refused his transfer search.
Ferguson admitted that this was the reason that Rooney was absent in his last home game, which was a 2-1 victory over Swansea. He said, “I don't think Wayne wanted to play, simply because he asked for a transfer.”
Again, Rooney was convinced to stay, this time under David Moyes, while in February 2014 he wrote a contract extension with the club.
Despite the claim of Rooney that Isak can no longer be made up for in the northeast, he could certainly do that under both Ferguson and Moyes.
Rooney added: “Now Newcastle is not happy with the behavior of Isak because Liverpool wants to sign him. But on the other hand, Newcastle tries to sign Yoane Wissa who behaves exactly on Brentford.
“I remember that Anthony Gordon did not play for Everton because he wanted to go to Newcastle. So you can't get it up in both sides. But in terms of the teammates of Isak, I would not want him back. Once you have exceeded the goal, I think it is very difficult to come back.
“You can ask to leave a football club – that happens – or the club tells you that you are leaving. But you have to be professional. You have friends with whom you play with, you have fans who pay a lot of money to support and you can't just walk on it. And if they do it once, they will do it again.
“For me I don't think there is a way back for Isak in Newcastle. I think there are cases where it can happen, but from me as a person, don't think I could accept them back.”
Newcastle organizes Liverpool on Monday evening football in their first home game of the season, which could turn out to be an exciting evening of action with many emotions that run high in St. James' Park.
