WBA champ Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez defends Jake Paul as polarizing boxer’s Top 15 ranking remains ‘under review’

The top 15 ranking list of Jake Paul received a surprising, positive assessment of the current title holder of Cruiserweight.

Jake Paul expanded his current winning series last month Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to beat with a unanimous decision. Only a few hours after his victory, Paul went for the first time in his polarizing career in the ranking of Cruiserweight and came in at number 14.

After the ranking of Paulus, various contenders contacted WBA with destructive criticism of the statement, which led to his ranking now being put by the association 'under review'. It is uncertain whether Paul's ranking will be drawn or whether he will stay at his current top 15 spot.

Paul has drawn up serious criticism during his boxing career, most recently from Interim WBC title holder Vergil Ortiz Jr. After he was eligible for a potential cruiserweight title shot, Paul received a surprising defense from WBA Cruiserweight title holder Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez.

Jake Paul gets a surprising defense of the top 15 -ranking of WBA Champ

Paul and Ramirez had a short faceoff after Paul's victory over Chavez. Paul has called Ramirez 'Easy Work' and 'Too Slow' while trying to lure the Cruiserweight Champion to a booking.

Despite Paul's Trash Talk, Ramirez has an interesting perspective on Paul's WBA ranking, contradictory with many of the vocal contenders of the division.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Ramirez was asked about critics of Paul's Top 15 Cruiserweight Ranking and gave a surprising response.

“He made a statement, beat one of the [former] Champions from Mexico, “said Ramirez.

“It was a great achievement for what he did, and I give Jake Paul the honor because at the end of the day he fought a world champion. He is doing well in this sport … Everyone knows it will not be a honest fight because I am a champion of world class, no. 1 ranking …

“People know him and at the end of the day I want to unite the undisputed title, and that is my goal.”

Ramirez, on the same night, defeated Paul Chavez, with Yuniel Dorticos with a unanimous decision to maintain the WBA and WBO Cruiserweight titles. He has won four consecutive fights since he ran his first career loss on Dmitry Bivol in November 2022.

Jake Paul's comeback confirmed only a few weeks after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

While the debate is raging about Paul's Cruiserweight standing, the polarizing boxer can only be a few months away from a return to the ring. Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian announced that he is aiming for a return to boxing in November or December against an opponent to be determined.

Ramirez could possibly come across Paul for his next defending defense, depending on where Paul's ranking is after the coming weeks. Paul has repeatedly shown interest in becoming world champion before hanging the gloves.
