Ruben Amorim understands the need for urgency in his Manchester United Project.
United remains on track for their worst Premier League finish after a 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Old Trafford on Sunday.
They are 13th at 38 points, seven drift from the top half with seven more games left.
Amorim's team, however, has a Europa League quarterfinals with Lyon, with that trophy the only route to save what a disappointing campaign has been.
And although Amorim has asked for patience while he wants to be united for where they belong, the former sporty CP boss is well aware that the time is essential.
“I am not naive or crazy, I can see how we are, I can look at the opponents and understand that there is a big gap, but as a leader I cannot say that we will take the gap all the time,” he told Sky Sports.
“Even if we bring in more players, we have to get along and show urgency to do it better, because we don't have much time in a club like this. We are in a hurry.”
Since Amorim took the lead in November on his first United match, only Leicester City (12) has no score in more Premier League matches than the Red Devils (eight).
United has now picked up only three points in nine competition home games against parties that start the day in the top half this season.
“We have so many aspects to improve. Everywhere we have to improve, build up, build, transition, decisions in the last third part,” Amorim added.
“Every player can improve, they are here because they have shown something at other clubs.
“They have the quality, we are still a team that plays at transition, we have to spend more time in the last third to have more opportunities.”
This was only the third Manchester derby who has finished 0-0 in all competitions since the beginning of 2016-17, because both parties settled for a draw that previously summarized their respective, overwhelming seasons.
“If you look at the moment of both teams, don't fight for titles, that changes the game completely,” Amorim said about the game.
“The feeling of winning, not being able to lose one point, that feeling is not here. As a coach it is difficult to say that.
“We have to fight for big things, if we do that, the feeling will be completely different.”
