Bruno Guimaraes insisted that Newcastle United is “always united”, while the Alexander Isak transfer saga continues.
The magpies fell in a heartbreaking defeat against Liverpool, who rejected a bid for Isak this summer, after Rio Ngumoha scored a winner of the stopping time in St. James Park on Monday.
Guimaraes scored the first goal of Newcastle in the 3-2 defeat, so Anthony Gordon also received a straight red card for an error on Virgil van Dijk.
Newcastle is still looking for their first competition gain of the season, and Guimaraes is already fully focused on their next game against Leeds.
“We will never give up. I think our mentality is very good than a group,” Guimaraes told Sky Sports.
“This is one of the best groups I have ever been involved. The boys are always positive. It is always united in the difficult moments and we are always united together, always together. This is part of football.
“Like I said, our plan for the team is to always try to play our best. On Saturday we have a new chance to try to get three points.”

In the meantime, Leeds followed their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal in the competition with a disappointing loss of penalty shootout for an inexperienced Sheffield on Wednesday in the EFL Cup.
Daniel Farke admitted that he was ashamed after the defeat against the championship side on Tuesday.
“We have to take all the criticism, and we are self -critical because we have to put four or five goals in bed from every opportunity,” Farke said.
“It is always a bit annoying and you feel a bit embarrassed as a Premier League side, but we have been involved in so many games at this level, especially in the cup – this is why there are so many surprises and shock results.
“Even the team in the lower competition can win such a competition. This was one of those days.”
Players to watch
Leeds United – Anton Stach
After his relocation of Hoffenheim this summer, Anton Stach has already had a major impact in the Leeds team.
Stach has created seven chances in the Premier League this season, most player. The Leeds midfielder was directly involved in 11 of their 24 shots, with four attempts themselves (46%).
Newcastle – Harvey Barnes
Harvey Barnes has the chance to perform for Newcastle with Anthony Gordon for this fixture. Barnes has scored five goals in Six Premier League performances against Leeds, in five games in a row for Leicester City between 2020 and 2022.
Between 2020-21 and 2022-23, only Mohamed Salah (nine) and Bruno Fernandes (eight) scored more often against the whites than Barnes.
Match Prediction – Newcastle Win
Leeds are unbeaten in their last 21 home competition matches (W18 D3), their joint best run under Farke. They last had a longer run between January 2009 and January 2010 (25 in League One), while in the top-two levels their previous best run was between May 1991 and November 1992 (31).
Newcastle is one of the two parties that Farke has confronted in the Premier League more than once without losing (W1 D1), together with Bournemouth; The cherries were managed by Eddie Howe in those two games in 2019-2020, as a result of which he confronted one of the two managers Farke twice and not lost, together with Steve Bruce.
Leeds has only lost one of their last six Premier League matches against Newcastle (W2 D3) and went home 1-0 at home in January 2022.
However, Newcastle has won 50% of their Premier League matches against Leeds (seven of 14), their highest profit percentage on each side they have confronted 10 or more on the way.
Newcastle has lost three of their last four Premier League matches (D1), more than in their previous 11 games (W8 D1 L2). The Magpies last had a longer Winless Run between September and October 2024 (five games).
Howe's side could struggle in the last third part without Gordon. He has more shots this season than any other Premier League player (10), and only three players have had more touches in the opposition box (12).
