‘We have to improve things’ – Emery hoping for transfers after Brentford defeat

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery revealed that the club will try to bring reinforcements before the end of the transfer window after he had fallen to a 1-0 defeat against Brentford.

Villa struggled against the bees, where Dango Ouattara marked his Brentford debut with a goal in the 12th minute, which was enough to seal all three points.

Villa indeed had 17 shots against Brentford (only two on goal), their most attempts without scoring in a Premier League match since October 2022 against Chelsea (18).

The result also saw that none of their opening won two games in a Premier League season for the first time since 2019-20-20 hours, while for the last time they score no goal in these two games in 2002-03.

Villa has only made three signing sessions this summer, with the head of the conquest of Evann Guessand and Nice if they want to meet the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Emery's side is linked to a movement for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, and the Spaniard hopes that Villa can freshen up the team for the deadline.

“We have to improve things,” said Emery. “We have to clarify some circumstances that we have in the transfer window.

“We have enough players, but we have to clarify some circumstances with some players who stay or not or the possibility we can add to add someone to help us.”

Emery did not defend the display on his side, after they rarely viewed them Cooimhin Kelleher, who registered an expected goals (XG) a total of 1.23 of their attempts.

“Today we competed badly. It wasn't enough and we admitted for a few minutes on the field that we should try to avoid,” Emery added. “We are not the way we want.

“The first 20 minutes did not perform and did not play with the intensity we needed and it is more difficult to give one goal. Today we are very disappointed about the result.”

In the meantime, for Brentford they only won their second Premier League match against Aston Villa, where they first held a clean slate against the Villans in the competition.

The bees have now won their first home game of the season in eight of their 10 top flight campaigns (D2), while manager Keith Andrews won the first victory as Brentford Boss.

“I am very proud of the team,” Andrews told the BBC. “It was sometimes filthy and ugly – and I thought it was great. We made it into a game that they didn't want.

“We were very comfortable behind the ball. The desire to keep the ball out of the back of the net, it was selfless work of so many players.”

Andrews refused to be attracted to the future of Forward Yoane Wissa, with the striker left out of the team in the midst of transfer speculation around a move to Newcastle United.

“I spoke about wiss before the game. I am not really interested in talking about him after the game,” Andrews added.

“It's about the players who played today who played with so much heart.”
