‘We start again’ – Inzaghi determined to learn from historic Champions League final loss

Simone Inzaghi believes that Inter Stronger will bounce back after a heavy 5-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

Inter could not match the intensity of PSG when they were the toughest defeat in the last history of Champions League members, as a desire Doue Brace, along with goals from Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu, the job in the Allianz Arena.

The Nerazzurri have now lost four of their last five European Cup/Champions League final. In the meantime, Inzaghi became the ninth coach who lost two or more finals in the competition, after he had also lost to Manchester City in 2023 (1-0).

Inzaghi was also disappointed by a single point in the Scudetto Race, but expects his side of this result to learn.

“We know that you can become stronger because of the defeat. This hurts like in Istanbul,” said Inzaghi.

“They were different games; tonight we arrived more tired than Paris. We didn't play technically well, they arrived earlier in the second balls.

“We played the championship until last Friday, they won their three months early. They have high quality, we knew they were stronger than we were and that we had to be better. Together we were worse, so we deserved the defeat.”

Inter did not succeed in putting a glove on PSG, with only eight shots and two on goal, because they only generated 0.49 expected goals (XG).

Before the final, Inter had one of the strongest defenses and she had never left more than 370 seconds in one of the three games in which they went one after the other.

However, they followed 81 minutes and seven seconds in the showpiece, more than in their 14 previous matches in the competition this season combined (16 minutes and 38 seconds).

“We start again, with a strong organization behind us, which has already made two signing sessions for next season and know that it will have to make more,” Inzaghi added.

“They have always been to us, they didn't let us miss anything. The board told me and the team that they are proud of what Inter has done this year.

“There is a lot of bitterness. We had many fans who came here to crown their journey, and like two years ago we did not make it in the most important competition.

“Now we will start calm again and with conviction. Unfortunately we have already gone through a number of heavy defeats.”
