Mikel Arteta claimed that Arsenal was “100 percent” this season, the best team in the Champions League and earned to beat Paris Saint -Germain – but Arsene Wenger did not agree
Arsene Wenger shot the statement of Mikel Arteta that his side was the better team over the two legs against Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal was aggregated from the Champions League in the semi-final with 3-1, where PSG was confronted in the final later this month in the final.
The Gunners arrived in Paris with a 1-0 deficit of the first stage and quickly came out of the blocks, but were refused by Gianluigi Donnarumma. The PSG keeper made amazing saves by Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard before Fabian Ruiz passed by David Raya in the 27th minute.
Donnarumma kept a Bukayo Saka Curler out before Raya saved a vitinha penalty to keep the hope of Arsenal alive. They seemed to be out when Achraf Hakimi found the bottom corner, only for Saka to give the Away fans something to cheer around when he throw in.
Saka put a low cross over the bar in the only other big chance of Arsenal and PSG that was kept relatively comfortable to eliminate a third English side. Arteta turned attention after the game by claiming that his side was “100 percent”, the best team in the competition and better than PSG about the two legs.
“First congratulations on PSG for reaching the final. The assessment I will make if I am a little cooler,” he added. “If you look at the two games that were their best player on the field, he has been the difference for them in the draw. We were very close, much closer than the result that turned out, but unfortunately we are out. I am very proud of the players.
“After 20 minutes it should have been 3-0. There is something extra that you need to go your way in the competition and it didn't do it. We were very close and for long periods of both games we were much better than they are, but we are not there and that has to hurt.
“If we want to win this competition, we have to realize that.
Did you say! Were Arsenal the better side over two legs against PSG? Respond below.
“100%, I don't think there has been a better team [than Arsenal] In the competition of what I have seen, but we are gone. This competition is about the boxes and in both boxes are the strikers and the keepers and there was the best in both games. “
Former Arsenal, however, Wenger had another take. Talking about Bein Sports, he said: “I would say tonight that we saw another Paris Saint-Germain led by possession and brilliant football, but led by refusing to give goals and take advantage of the counterattack and on set pieces what gave them success.
“On the other hand, with Arsenal, we saw the repetition of being unable to score goals … In general, in the two games, I would say they were better than Arsenal, had more opportunities and were never really in danger, so congratulations to Paris Saint-Germain.
“I said a long time ago that Paris Saint-Germain will not be far away from winning the Champions League and let's not forget: they are perhaps the only team that can have the perfect season because they can win the Champions League, win the double in France and the club world cup. That would be an exceptionally success for Luis Enrique.”
