West Brom 2-0 Bristol City: Johnston double seals crucial win

Mikey Johnston's first-half brace was enough to seal a 2–0 home win for West Brom over Bristol City.

After a rather dull opening half hour, the game came alive when Johnston headed home from a Tom Fellows cross on the right.

Nine minutes later he doubled his and West Brom's lead with a sumptuous curling right-footed shot past a helpless Max O'Leary.

The Republic of Ireland international missed two good chances after the break to complete a hat-trick, while Josh Maja also came close to adding more sparkle to the scoreline in a dominant Baggies win.

Carlos Corberan's side moved up to seventh in the Championship, level with sixth-placed Middlesbrough, while Bristol City – without a win in four games – are in 12th place, seven points off the play-off positions.

Data debrief: Baggies' scoring run continues

Fellows has performed impressively for West Brom this season and picked up another assist, taking his tally to eight for the season – no player in the Championship has more.

Meanwhile, Johnston couldn't have found his goalscorer at a better time. He had not scored for the Baggies since April but scored two in nine minutes to secure victory on Sunday.

West Brom have recovered from a dip in form to win two of their last three games, while their five-game scoring streak (eight goals) in the league is the longest of the entire season so far.
