West Ham 2-0 Tottenham: Spurs suffer fifth consecutive WSL defeat

Viviane Asseyi scored late when West Ham recorded a 2-0 home victory on Rivals Tottenham, who have now suffered five consecutive ladies Super League defeats.

His own goal of the 16th minute from Tottenham's Josefine Rybrink looked like it turned out to be the difference in a tight collision on Sunday.

But West Ham made absolutely sure of the points when Asseyi hit a dangerous free kick in the 90th minute from close up the touchline, which everyone avoided before finding his way in the far corner.

West Ham jumps their rivals in the rankings, with traces that fall until the ninth when their miserable form continued to exist, even though they hit the woodwork in both halves.

The opener of the hosts arrived in the casual way, with Asseyi who was involved in the structure before the Cross-shot of Verena Hanshaw was unintentionally diverted by Rybrink in her own network.

West Ham had opportunities to expand their lead, with Shekiera Martinez and Oona Siren both guilty of good chances.

They almost paid the price for that debauchery when Eveliina Summanen van Spurs hit the bar with a nice free kick just before half-time, while Martha Thomas-Waardoor was her 100th WSL-Opijammer to see a second half of effort coming back after the smart deviation of Ella Morross' Cross Goal Goal.

Spurs goalkeeper Lize Kop made an excellent salvation from Katrina Gorry on the other side while the game remained in the balance until the final phase, but the sixth WSL goal of Asseyi of the season wrapped a good victory for West Ham.

Data Debrief: The struggles of Spurs continue

West Ham had only defeated Tottenham in one of their last five attempts at home, while they had also lost nine of their last 11 London Derbies, but this is a struggling Spurs team.

A fifth straight defeat means that this is the worst WSL loss in Tottenham, because they suffered nine losses in a row from November 2022 to March 2023.

Since the beginning of February they have not earned a single point and have only scored one goal while they admit 11.

Spurs had a lot of efforts here and made 14 shots, but only three of them were on goal and they have not succeeded in scoring in seven of their 17 games, with only Leicester City (nine times) and Crystal Palace (eight) who do not score more often in the WSL of this season.

As far as West Ham is concerned, their home form was the key to a solid campaign. They have taken 17 of their 18 points in home games, and this is the first time they have won five games for their own fans in a single WSL season.
