West Ham join race to sign Man United forward Rashford but face cost hurdle

West Ham have expressed an interest in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, but costs are a hurdle.

The Hammers, who confirmed the appointment of Graham Potter as manager on Thursday morning, are struggling in the rush hour.

West Ham are currently without captain and top scorer Jarrod Bowen, who is expected to be out for another five weeks with a broken foot.

Michail Antonio is also on the sidelines after a car accident that left him fearing for his life last month. The 34-year-old is expected to miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.

The costs associated with bringing Rashford to the London Stadium would likely be a hurdle.

Ideally, the club would like to sell Rashford, whose contract runs until 2028 after an extension in 2023, for £40 million.

A loan move would depend on what proportion of his wages United are willing to pay, as well as the size of the fee if there is an obligation to buy.

The striker's weekly wage is estimated at around £325,000.

Rashford's brother and agent Dwaine Maynard held talks with Juventus officials on Wednesday.

The Man United forward's representatives have also spoken to Dortmund technical director Sven Mislintat.

Maynard had been in Italy on Tuesday to hold preliminary talks with Italian giants AC Milan.

Another Serie A team from Como, managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas, has also reportedly acquired a stake in Rashford.

Como, currently 10th in the table, has a link with Man United in former defender Rafael Varane.

The former France international joined the Italian team's board after retiring earlier this season.

Mail Sport announced on Wednesday that Tottenham are among the clubs with an interest in Rashford.

Spurs want to strengthen their attacking options and save their season despite being the second top scorer in the Premier League.

Rashford admitted in an impressive interview last month that he is ready for a 'new challenge' and spoke of leaving Old Trafford as a 'when', not an 'if'.

Ruben Amorim has not played against Rashford since coming on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on December 7, although he was back on the bench after last week's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle.

When asked why he was dropped for the Manchester derby, Amorim said: 'Selection. We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, involvement with the teammates, bringing out the teammates. Everything is on the line when we analyze the players and try to choose them, so that is my selection.”

Rashford has already rejected three offers from Saudi Arabia worth up to £35m a year

The 27-year-old will only join a competitive club and league that would give him a chance to regain his place in the England squad.
