West Ham would like to sign Coimhin Kelleher in the summer transfer window, but there is probably a lot of competition for the Liverpool goalkeeper. Kelleher is impressed by the fact that this season will get opportunities from Arne Slot, but remains behind Alisson Becker in the pecking order and wants to safely secure FOOTHER FOOTBALL.
The Republic of Ireland International held nine clean sheets in 20 performances this season. He has proven himself, but knows that he will not move Alisson, who again showed his interest to Liverpool in their 2-1 victory over West Ham on Sunday.
In fact, he would probably go off a place in the goalkeeper's rankings if he was staying in Liverpool for another season, with Giorgi Mhaldashvili who arrives from Valencia. The Georgian keeper was signed last summer before he was lent on the Spanish side for the 2024/25 season and will expect to be involved when he arrives.
Kelleher made no secret of the fact that he wanted to become a member of Nottingham Forest in the summer, but they did not meet the £ 35 million valuation of Liverpool. He will certainly attract new interest when the transfer window is reopened on 1 June, reporting the Sun that the Hamers would like to land him.
Although West Ham would rather sign him on loan, Kelleher is said to be appreciated at £ 20 million by Liverpool, who want a permanent deal and do not stand in the way of their asking price. While Forest has since settled on Matz Sels, Chelsea is also previously connected to Kelleher, with Robert Sanchez not convincing as number 1.
The 26-year-old is not the only keeper who will be on the market this summer, with Aaron Ramsdale ready to leave Southampton after their relegation to the championship. The former Arsenal keeper, who saved two penalties from Marco Asensio in a 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday, would also cost £ 20 million.
West Ham currently has Alphonse Areola as their first choice in the goal, but the Frenchman has only held four clean sheets in 21 league matches and is not well suited for the playing style of Graham Potter. Kelleher is now ready to continue and prove himself week in, week.
“It is clear that my intention is to do as well as possible and show my assets,” he explained earlier this season. “That is where my head is with the situation. The best thing I can do is play well and the manager might give something to think about, giving him a headache.
“But it works both sides in both ways. I have played so often last season and if you do it well, your appreciation will go up, because the club will clearly want a good win. I was clear (in the summer) that I wanted to play the first team of football, whether or not that was a number 1. I wanted to be a number 1.
“That was my thinking process – but it has always been my thinking process, because I am clearly a football player and just like every player, I want to play. I am not going to enjoy or be happy to sit on the couch.”
