What did Mohamed Salah say about ‘disappointing’ Liverpool contract situation?
The Egyptian scored twice in Red's 3-2 Premier League victory over Southampton, but his current contract expires next summer.
“I'm probably outside more than inside,” said Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, when asked if he expects to stay at the club beyond next summer.
The Egyptian has been in red-hot form this season and he bagged a match-winning brace against Southampton on Sunday to maintain his side's title bid. After the match, however, Salah was less decisive when it came to his future. His current contract expires in the summer of 2025, meaning he could sign a pre-contract deal with another team as early as January.
“We are almost in December and I have not yet received any offers to stay at the club. I'm probably outside more than inside,” Salah told reporters on Sunday.
“You know I have been at the club for years. There is no club like this. But ultimately it's out of my hands. Like I said before, it's December and I haven't received anything about my future yet.”
Will Mohamed Salah stay at Liverpool?
Whatever the contractual situation, there is clearly no shortage of desire on Salah's behalf. Now in his eighth season at Anfield, he remains the key attacking talent, an important bridge from the past in the new Arne Slot era.
“I love the fans. The fans love me. Ultimately, it's not in my hands, nor in the hands of the fans. Let's wait and see.”
Salah was asked if he was disappointed not to have committed his future to Liverpool yet. He replied: “Of course, yes. I'm not retiring anytime soon so I'm just playing, focusing on the season and trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League too. I'm disappointed, but we'll see.”
