Inter Milan plays their seventh Champions League final this Saturday 31 May, in a way they have never had before: in their yellow third kit. Wearing the iconic black and blue was off the table, because PSG is the designated 'home' team and will wear their blue home kit. But instead of leaving with their white, the Italian club has chosen to wear their yellow third kit.
Inter Milan players make Jersey choice for the Champions League final
With black details inspired by the Milanese architecture, the yellow shirt was chosen by the players for a very specific reason.
According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, it all came down to superstition. Their only Champions League defeat this season came while wearing White, against the Leverkusen of Xabi Alonso in December. In Geel, on the other hand, they picked up two European victories – against Sparta Prague and Feyenoord – five more in the Champions League. Goalkeeper Sommer also wore it in the historic 4–3 victory at Barça in San Siro.
There is reason for Interfans to believe in the final without the Nerazzurra. In 1998, with gray and black, a led by Ronaldo led the UEFA Cup with a 3-0 win over Lazio. However, that kit was worn in all their home games in the competition. White also had his moment: in the European Cup final of 1965 against Benfica they won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jair.
