Bryan Mbeumo's £ 71 million relocation from Brentford to Manchester United is finally completed, but there is a persistent resentment towards the United sales club
Bryan Mbeumo has finally completed his transfer from Brentford to Manchester United – but the deal has left the persistent resentment between the two clubs.
Mbeumo signed a five-year contract with United worth £ 200,000 a week after the two clubs had agreed a deal worth £ 71 million, consisting of an initial £ 65 million and £ 6 million in performance-related add-ons. He is the second major signing of the summer, after Matheus Cunha, and will become a member of United on Tuesday during their tour for the season by the United States.
United is pleased to have done the deal, but there is some irritation because of how long it took, with first contact in the coming months earlier in the summer transfer window. There was interest from Tottenham, Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal, and Brentford kept their land in negotiations.
The bees found that United corresponded a high wage to Mbeumo to get rival clubs from the running for him and then started negotiations on the reimbursement at a low starting point – £ 45 million plus £ 10 million in add -ons.
Former Brentford -Baas Thomas Frank, now in Tottenham, knew the price that his old club wanted for Mbeumo, so Spurs was willing to pay more than united, but the player insisted that he would only go to Old Trafford.
Brentford put pressure on Mbeumo to reduce its wage requirements, to increase the size of the compensation they would receive, but United Eerde honored his wish to join them by agreeing to pay him £ 200,000 a week.
Sources involved in the Dealclaim Brentford wanted a fee of £ 70 million plus £ 7 million in add-ons for Mbeumo, but United succeeded in negotiating that last figure, with the £ 6 million add-ons with regard to a mix of team and individual versions.
Mbeumo contributed 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford after he arrived at the club of Troyes in August 2019. He has secured the record transfer of the club and director of Voetbal Phil Giles wished him well in a statement that did not report the Tetchy room.
“On behalf of everyone in Brentford, I want to wish Bryan the very best for the future and thank him for his fantastic efforts for six seasons with us,” Giles said.
“Bryan came to us as a teenager, and it was an absolute pleasure for all of us here to see him develop as a player and a person. Our fans loved him and he was part of some of our biggest days.
“There is always a good time for a player to continue and, for Bryan, that time is now. He has the chance to go to one of the largest clubs in the world, and we are very happy for him.
“Bryan will always be welcome at the Gtech. We look at him in September and when our paths cross in the future.”
