Premier League clubs can set up their summer spending on Tuesday, because they enter a new accounting year, which means that they are not that limited by the profit and sustainability rules
The transfer window is set to the hit with Premier League clubs that wait this week until they increase their recruitment, while they have a fire until the following year of accounts.
We have just introduced the new report year under the financial rules of the Premier League and it means that all deals can now be placed on the 2025/26 accounts, instead of those of 2024/25. All clubs that were on the limit of this year's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) have been on fire on a number of transfers.
The powers that have already shown that violating PSR rules can lead to points deduction and some teams had pause their business to prevent them from adding numbers to their balance sheet of 2024/25, reports the Daily Mail.
But everything from Tuesday goes against a new account, where clubs have much more room for maneuver. As a result, expenditure will probably rise.
This summer we have already seen the transfer of the British record broken by Liverpool, who spent almost £ 200 million to land people like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. That said, the Reds hardly spent anything last summer, so the room had to invest.
Manchester United has spent £ 62.5 million to add Matheus Cunha, but he is their only summer mark so far despite their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo. They have had several offers for the Brentford man rejected, but the deal is expected to get over the line.
Manchester City has added three new faces with Rayan Cherki among them. Pep Guardiola looks at a rebuilding and their summer recruitment will be helped by the millions they receive from the Club World Cup, where they were taken to the knockout phases.
Newcastle has been somewhat hindered by PSR in the past, but this new accounting year can give them room to invest. They go after Brighton's Joao Pedro while they have also shown their interest in goalkeeper James Trafford and Anthony Elanga van Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal is expected to sign a striker this summer, but nothing has been confirmed with Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres on their radar. They have also not officially announced the signing of Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad.
