Why isn’t Szoboszlai playing for Liverpool against West Ham in the EPL today?

Szoboszlai has been a key part of the Reds' rotating cast in support of Mohamed Salah but will miss Sunday's trip to face the Hammers.

Liverpool will look to continue their push for the Premier League title when they take on West Ham United on Sunday (December 29). Head coach Arne Slot will likely continue to rotate his starting line-up for Sunday's match at the London Stadium, but one man who will not be part of that rotation is Dominik Szoboszlai.

Why Szoboszlai is absent for Liverpool vs West Ham

Apart from key striker and ever-present Mohamed Salah, who is going from strength to strength, the Reds' midfield and attacking stars have enjoyed both ample rest and playing time, with Slot making the most of the options at his disposal. This also applies to Szoboszlai, who has played in all 17 of Liverpool's Premier League games so far, 12 of which he has started.

However, the Hungarian will miss his first match of the 2024/25 season The Hammers. In the league leaders' home win against Leicester City on December 26, Szoboszlai picked up his fifth yellow card of the Premier League season, which immediately earned him a one-match suspension.

What are the yellow card suspension rules in the Premier League?

Premier League rules state that players who receive five yellow cards at any point in their first 19 matches will receive a one-match ban. As the season progresses, any player who receives 10 yellow cards in their first 32 matches will receive a two-match ban.
