Arsenal defender William Saliba was asked about the progress of a new contract after the Gunners Newcastle defeated 3-2 in Singapore while their preparations for the new season continue
William Saliba says he will sign a contract extension with Arsenal “Hopefully soon” after speculation that the club wants to bind him to a new deal soon.
The Gunners have been working on the transfer market prior to the new Premier League season after they finished second for a third consecutive campaign. Deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Crithian Mosquera were all packed last week while the men of Mikel Arteta left for their pre-season tour.
And Arsenal followed their strong early company by completing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon on the weekend.
Contract discussions are also on the agenda of the club this summer and there has been noise about possible conversations with Saliba, which has been strongly linked to Real Madrid in recent months.
The French International, 24, was asked when he signed a new Gunners contract after Sunday's 3-2 victory over Newcastle in Singapore by ATVV -and he answered positively.
“Hopefully quickly,” Saliba said before he crossed his fingers and points to heaven, adding: “God is great.”
Saliba who would commit his future to the club in the long term would be an important boost for Arsenal. The former Saint-Etienne-Man has a formidable partnership with Gabriel in the heart of the defense of Arsenal and its current conditions expired in 2027.
His empire versions for Arsenal in recent years have emerged as a target for Real Madrid, which is thought that they would like to sign Saliba the following year when the Frenchman will only have 12 months left. Arsenal, however, remains determined to hold one of their top stars for the near future.

“I want to win big things with Arsenal. If you leave this club without winning anything, the fans will forget you. I want to win big things here.
“One day I want to be the best defender in the world. I know I have to work a lot and also have to win trophies – but that's my dream.”
