‘Winner’ De Bruyne sees a bright future at ambitious Napoli

Kevin De Bruyne came to Napoli to add more trophies to his huge collection, while he explained his hope for a bright future with the Italian giants.

De Bruyne completed a transfer to Napoli earlier this week, with the Belgian Manchester City left after the expiry of his contract.

The 33-year-old spent 10 trophy-loading for years with City and won six Premier League titles.

De Bruyne scored 108 goals and gave 170 assists about 422 performances for City in all competitions.

His 118 Premier League helps in second place in the history of the competition, behind Ryan Giggs (162).

De Bruyne chose to join Napoli about a move to the Chicago Fire in MLS, while reporting was also interesting for Saudi Arabic teams. However, with Napoli who won the Serie A title for the second time in the room of three seasons in 2024-25, the playmaker focuses on more trophies in the coming years.

Speaking with Napoli's media channels, he said: “I am a winner, I want to win games. I have always been like that, I hate to lose.

“The team won the Scudetto last year, so they are in the Champions League. I hope that together we can create something good for the future.

“The team wants to win, they are ambitious, it seems that a really good team comes together, so for me it was a very nice project to come in and hopefully I can help the team get through their ambitions.”

The key to the success of Napoli in 2024-25 was Romelu Lukaku, who scored 14 league goals and led Serie A for Assists (10).

And De Bruyne is looking forward to a reunion with his international teammate.

He added: “I have known Romelu since I was 13 years old. He spoke many good words about the team, the city, so I am excited to do good things together.

“I am excited, it is something that is very new to me, I have lived in England for 10 years, but I think it will be a nice experience for me, for my family, and I am looking forward to it.”
