Liverpool wants to conclude a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, where the 22-year-old playmaker is enthusiastic this summer about a move to Anfield
Florian Wirtz seems to have confirmed that he is “excited” to join Liverpool this summer, with the Reds rejecting two bids by Bayer Leverkusen. The last offer of Liverpool was a package that was around £ 109.6 million in total, but it was saved as Leverkusen value Wirtz for £ 126 million.
There are conversations going on between the two clubs and it is generally expected to reach an agreement, with people like Manchester City and Bayern Munich who have withdrawn from the race for the 22-year-old.
Despite the constant speculation about his future, Wirtz started for Germany, because they were defeated 2-1 by Portugal in their UEFA Nations League Semi-Final Clash on Wednesday with manager Julian Nagelsmann who is insisting that the player was not affected by the situation.
“Flo will play,” said Nagelsmann prior to the game, where Wirtz scored the only goal in Germany. “I don't feel any fear of injury or something with him. He is a competitor who wants to play and want to be successful with us.”
And after the game, Wirtz seemed to drop a hint about the transfer interviews while walking through the mixed zone. When asked by the Daily Mail if he was “excited for Liverpool”, Wirtz looked around and nodded.
Liverpool has already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen and the director Simon Rolfes of the club recently said: “It is currently an open subject with Florian.
“There is a concrete interest from Liverpool, but there is no longer to say. Florian is our player.”
And colleague Leverkusen -star Nathan Tella has supported Wirtz to succeed in Anfield if the Reds can complete a deal for the playmaker. “He is also great, you can see his power every time he goes on the ball,” Tella Sky Sports said earlier this month.
“He is one of those players between the lines, he dribbles, he can make fit, he can score. For me he is great to play with. He is a very creative player, someone who can change the game like that.
“He has so much talent, so many technical skills, he has an eye for goal, he is just a brilliant one, a good number 10. They have to look forward to looking at him (when he leaves).”
